The engine is the bedrock of the tractor with the power to dictate a lot of its function. The engine model used here was made by the famous Briggs and Stratton and is the 33R877 (M33) model. It packs an incredible 19 horsepower, For a lawn tractor that is powerful enough to do the regular mowing, pulls heavy objects, and even more.

It uses gasoline fuel which is the common fuel type for tractors, so you shouldn’t have any problems sourcing fuel. It is also a 1-cylinder tractor which may affect its operation. 2-cylinder engines are more preferred and as they offer smoother operations. Nevertheless, the S110 has a good bore × stroke of 3.70 × 3.06 inches.

The displacement is 540 cc while the air cleaner is dry. Then there’s the electric ignition to reduce the starting time and stress involved. It’ll also help you avoid starting problems that usually intensify during the winter months. In general, electric ignition is the more convenient and efficient model.

The fuel tank is located at the rear of the tractor with a fuel tank capacity of 9.1 L (2.4 US gal). This capacity is not the biggest but would hold a decent amount of fuel while working before refueling.

Transmission and Chassis

The frame of the S110 lawn tractor is a full-length, welded steel to protect the front of the tractor that will often be the first point of contact when you bump against hard surfaces. It uses a molded-in color material for the hood to reduce the engine’s sound and avoid rusting. The front tire rating is 15×6-6, while the rear tire rating is 20×8-8.

There are floor mats with channels that can remove debris. There’s also a storage tray and cup holder to hold your beverages while working.

The transmission is a Tuff-Torq TL200 model with a belt-driven hydrostatic transmission type. It comes with side-by-side pedals for control while having a maximum forward speed of 8.9 km/h (5.5 mph) and a maximum reverse speed of 5.2 km/h (3.2 mph). With its internal wet disc brake, you’ll be able to bring the tractor to a stop when needed, even in wet conditions. And this brake type is effective in wet environments.

The steering is a sector and pinion with a single drag link and tie-rod. It has an eighteen inches turning radius which is quite steep even for a lawn tractor. You’ll find this radius quite helpful if you have a rocky garden. It’ll allow you to move around tight spaces and objects in your field as you work.

Attachments

To make using attachments with the S110 effective, John Deere used a slide under tractor style for the S110 lawn tractor. The front draft arms use one spring clip, while the rear draft arms use two spring clips. Attachments will not be possible without these improvements or at least will not give you the same results.

The most significant attachments are the snow blower, blade, and mower deck. With the snow blower attachment, you can push snow away from your walkways and around your home. The most suitable snowblower size is 44 inches and should be front-mounted.

A 46 inches blade is also the most suitable blade size attachment to be used—also front-mount on your S110 lawn tractor. A 42 inches mid-mount John Deere mower deck with 2-blade and manual lift is another attachment you can use.

Here are the advantages and disadvantages of getting the S110 lawn tractor. Clear reasons that’ll help you make up your mind faster.

Pros:

  • Powerful engine: at 19 horsepower, the S110 packs a powerful engine for a lawn tractor that will handle all your lawn needs and more.
  • Two-year warranty: the S110 has a 2-year warranty or 120 hours bumper to bumper warranty, whichever comes first.
  • Comfortable seat: two-piece seat with an open back allows for proper ventilation and comfort when using it.
  • Full-length steel frame: The frame has to be protected for durability since it’ll hit first in an accidental bump. John Deere uses a full-length welded steel frame here, which brings reliability.
  • Superior Edge™ cutting technology: this technology gives your lawn a cleaner and better cut, ultimately leading to a fantastic lawn.
  • Wide and comfortable operator station: for a compact tractor like the S110, you’d be forgiven if you thought the operator area would be small and tight. But this is far from it as the tractor sports a wide and spacious area for the operator.

Cons:

  • Single-cylinder: the engine has only one cylinder, which may limit its performance and smooth operation.
  • Small fuel tank: at only 9.1 L, the fuel tank can only hold a small amount of gasoline before you’ll need to refuel.

Conclusion

Modern and attractive, the John Deere S110 tractor is an exciting option for lawn mowers who need a lawn tractor with a bit more power than average. Aside from its powerful engine, it is quite affordable and reliable, with a full-length, welded steel frame helping to protect it.
