John Deere Snow Blower Models

Imagine the back-breaking process of clearing snow from your walkway using a shovel. It’ll even be almost impossible to use a shovel to remove snow from a large area like your front yard. This is why a snow blower is so essential.

Snow-packed driveways are common occurrences during the winter. The best way to remove the snow without stress is through the use of a snow blower. John Deere, a famous tractor manufacturer, is also making snow blowers to help you ease the pain, save time, and do the work more efficiently.

History of John Deere Snow Blower Models

John Deere started making snow blowers in the 70s and continued until 1990 when it decided to leave the snow blower manufacturing scene. It, however, did not stop selling snow blowers. John Deere contracted several companies to make snow blowers for it.

These companies make the snow blowers and have the John Deere brand name on it. Some of the companies contracted to make these snow blowers include Ariens, Murray, Briggs and Stratton, and Simplicity.

This collaboration was going smoothly. We thought till users were shocked when John Deere announced in 2012 that it is altogether leaving the snow blowing scene. John Deere cited lack of sales as its reason for leaving the snow blowing scene.

Why Choose John Deere Snow Blower?

There are several other manufacturing companies making snow blowers; why choose John Deere?

The John Deere brand has been producing garden equipment since the 1800s. It has established a brand known for its durability and efficiency. It has produced 100s of garden tractors that have made weeding, land clearing, and fertilizer application much easier. It is not the cheapest for snow blowers, but the brand name is enough to sway potential buyers.

Bearing in mind that in 1991 John Deere started contracting its slower blower manufacturing to other companies; this significantly reduced the quality of snow blowers it sold.

It was reported that some of Murray’s tractors were so ridden with problems that buyers kept returning it.

Their extensive network of dealers makes buying parts and undergoing routine maintenance effortless.

Single Stage or Double Stage, Which Model do you need?

These two John Deere snow blower models present unique solutions to your problems, and getting the right one will make your work easier.

Now, how do you know which is best for you? They are classified based on the level of snow and the terrain it’ll be working on. Don’t worry; I’ll be showing you all you need to know about these models so you can make an informed decision.

John Deere Single Stage Model

John Deere snow blower model Single Stage Model

The single-stage snow blower design has a modern user in mind. It is small and light, making it easier to move, and taking up the smallest storage space possible. It will fit into your small garden shed and still leave room for other equipment.

It is called a single-stage snow blower because its auger or paddle scoops snow and shoots it out through the chute in a single motion. This makes it straightforward to operate.

Its primary advantage is its simplicity and style. It can clear snow from paved grounds and is ideal when dealing with a small amount of snow. You’ll typically find this Model with horsepower between 5 and 8 and can clear between 1 and 2 feet wide at a time.

You may find this machine annoying if you usually have a high amount of snow in your area. This snow blower will not work well when the snow is up to 10 inches deep. It also does not work well on graveled floors. Because of its operation mode, the paddle or scrapple bars need to be changed every 2-3 years.

If your area gets less than 75 inches of snow yearly, then you shouldn’t have any problem using this snow blower. It will handle small areas like driveways. It also works best on flat terrain and is the least expensive Model to purchase.

John Deere Double Stage Model

This John Deere Snow Blower model is a larger, more expensive unit, and it is no surprise it can clear more snow width at a time (between 1.5 feet and 2.5 feet). It can also clear snow depth up to 12 inches deep. This makes it ideal for people living in areas with high snowfall.

This is the unit to call on when you’re handling more extensive jobs. Its price makes it uneconomical for just clearing driveways and pathways.

It uses a two-step process for snow removal. First, the auger loosens the snow, then the impeller blade sucks the snow up and forces it out through the chute.

Typically this Model sports higher horsepower ratings meaning you’ll get a farther snow throw from them. Do you have an uneven terrain? This is the Model for you. It’ll work comfortably in rough terrain and on graveled floors.

Features of John Deere Snow Blower

Engine

All John Deere snow blowers are equipped with a Briggs and Stratton engine. These engines are fitted with horsepower between 5 to 9, depending on the Model.

Auger

The auger is a spinning disc attached to the snow blower. It loosens the snow and, in the single-stage Model, pushes the snow out through the chute.

Chute

This is a hollow pipe that discharges the loose snow. It has a turning radius of either 190 or 200 degrees. This will help you control the angle of the snow to prevent it from coming back to you.

Electric Starter

All John Deere snow blowers come with an electric starter rather than a recoil starter. This is, so you have a tiny problem starting the machine in the cold.

Plastic Cabin

This is a necessary feature to have in a snow blower; as the snow is pushed out through the chute, it is sometimes blown toward the operator by the wind. This plastic cabin has clear windows on all sides, which lets you see and protects you from the snow.

You may have to buy this cabin separately if your snow-blower does not already come with it.
