Deere & Company’s John Deere brand is 180 years old and supports individuals who are engaged with land activities. In 1837, John Deere built one of the first steel plows capable of tilling American Midwest prairie soil, and the company was born. Before his creation, John Deere worked as a garden and farm tool manufacturer and repairman in his village. John Deere launched his business after creating his revolutionary steel plow.
In 1842, John Deere and Leonard Andrus formed a business partnership to acquire land for their two-story plant along the Rock River in Illinois. During the next two years, this plant was known as “L. Andrus Plough Manufacturer” and manufactured plows. This company, however, ended in 1848, and Deere relocated to Moline, Illinois, where he formed a partnership with Robert Tate and John Gould. In the same year, this collaboration led to the development of a 1,440-square-foot factory.
However, it wasn’t until 1853 that Deere and his son Charles Deere began making equipment apart from plows, such as carts, maize crushers, cultivators, and other agricultural implements. The John Deere business, on the other hand, did not enter the tractor market until 1918. The current company, John Deere–Delaware Company, was founded in 1958 as a subsidiary of John Deere. After combining with the previous Deere & Business and its affiliates later that year, the current company name was adopted.
